About the Dunblane Chamber Orchestra

 

Hilary Dalby leader

The Dunblane Chamber Orchestra was founded by Fiona Shearer and Alistair Warwick in February 2008 and currently consists of string and woodwind players from around the area (Ashfield, Avonbridge, Balquidder, Braco, Bridge of Allan, Callander, Denny, Drymen, Dunblane, Falkirk, Gargunnock, Glasgow, The Hillfoots, Larbert, Lenzie and Stirling).

Alistair Warwick holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in music from Surrey University, specialising in conducting and in Scottish early music.

His conducting studies include work with Sebastian Forbes, Owen Rees, Nicholas Conran, Bryan Fairfax and Alasdair Mitchell; he has also taken part in masterclasses in choral direction with Mike Brewer and David Hill.

Extra-musical studies include theology and liturgy.

Current appointments

Conductor of the Stirling University Choir (from May 2009).

RSCM co-ordinator for Scotland, and tutor for RSCM/Bangor University's Sacred Music Studies course.

Choir Trainer for St Mary's, Dunblane.

Previous appointments

Director of Music and Master of the Choristers for ten years at Arundel Cathedral, where he started the flourishing junior choir.

Organist at Worth Abbey (home of "The Monastery" as shown on BBC television).

He has produced and directed a number of CD recordings; these include the choirs of Dunblane, Ely and Winchester Cathedrals. Television appearances include live broadcasts from Arundel.

He worked for the RSCM for ten years, latterly as Programme Director for Sacred Music Studies.

Other work

Alistair is Director of The Art of Music, a local company combining many of these skills by providing music- and type-setting services and choral publications.

The Art of Music's typesetting portfolio includes music for the Church of England's Common Worship liturgy, publications for The Plainsong and Medieval Music Society, the Panel of Monastic Musicians, the Royal School of Church Music, and academic books for Ashgate and The University of Wales Press.

At the first committee meeting on 16 May 2009, the following were elected as office-bearers:

  • Fiona Shearer (Chair & Treasurer)

  • Trudie Ford (Upper Strings representative)
  • Val Carson (Lower Strings representative)
  • Crawford Gordon (Wind representative)

Other committee members include Fiona Chalamanda and Leslie Mair.
Hilary Dalby (leader) and Alistair Warwick (musical director) are ex-officio members.

Please bring a music stand.

Tea and coffee etc. will be available during the afternoons; please bring along something towards a buffet after the rehearsal on the 20th (unless you wish to make your own arrangements).

Concert

The concert will be in Victoria Hall, Dunblane on Sunday 20 September at 7.00pm
(Dress code – all black)
